Zurich, April 26 – Around 500 Tibetans took part in a solidarity rally for the monks of Kirti Monastery in Zurich Tuesday evening. The Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein organized the rally that saw participation also from several Tibetan supporters in Switzerland. A prayer service for the monks of Kirti monastery and Tibetans in Ngaba was held at the gathering.
The Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein has sent appeal letters to the United Nations Human Rights Commisioner, Chinese Ambassador in Switzerland and the Swiss government urging them to pay heed to the ongoing situation inside Ngaba. It also condemned the Chinese government’s acts of repression in Ngaba where a Tibetan monk named Phuntsok killed himself by immolating self in March this year.
Lobsang Shitsetsang, the vice-president of the community, said the Tibetans in Switzerland are saddened by situation in Kirti monastery and Ngaba, and stand in solidarity with the Tibetan people in Ngaba at this critical time. “We condemn the killing of two elderly Tibetans camped near the monastery, and the forceful eviction of around 300 monks from the monastery,” said Lobsang.
The community will begin a year-long campaign on May 30 in front of the UN Human Rights Commission and UN office in Geneva asking the international body of countries to send ‘fact – finding mission to Tibet’. The campaign “UN – FACT-FINDING MISSION TO TIBET – NOW!” will conclude with a massive rally in front of the UN on May 30, 2012. The campaign aims to involve as many Swiss and international celebrities and personalities. Noted Swiss singer Nubiya and rapper Greis have agreed to lend their fame to the campaign.
