US Lists Nepal in its Foreign Policy Priorities
Dharamsala, March 2: The United States Congress has formed a bipartisan caucus on Nepal, co-chaired by Republican Congressman Ander Crenshaw and Democratic Congressman Jared Polis. This is the first-ever caucus on Nepal in the Congress.
The Embassy of Nepal in Washington D.C. has said it played an instrumental role in mobilising highest level American politicians to establish the caucus.
“The Congressional Caucus is a group of Congress members who share common interests and goals on Nepal. The members of the caucus are supposed to meet as and when necessary to discuss issues of interest and to direct actions which will help strengthen the relations between the USA and Nepal,” the Nepali embassy said in a statement released Monday.
The Nepali mission has also expressed hope that the caucus could provide an extraordinary opportunity in building a new platform in promoting and strengthening relations between the US and Nepal.
The newly formed caucus, the Nepali embassy said, should help “in fortifying Nepal’s new democracy and improving peace and sustainable development in the country, strengthening socio-economic and political relations between the two countries, [and] cooperating to tackle global and regional problems.”
