New Delhi, December 15 – As the Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao begins his India visit today, the largest Tibetan Non governmental organization seeking independence from China said he is unwelcome to India.
The Tibetan Youth Congress which does not agree with the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile’s position of seeking genuine autonomy within China carried out a protest yesterday at the Indian capital’s landmark India Gate. The activists of the group headed by its president Tsewang Rinzin unfurled a banner that read, “Free Tibet Wen – Free Tibet Now”.
Activists including students of the Delhi University will begin protest March today from Rajghat, the memorial of India’s father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, to Jantar Mantar in the heart of the Indian Capital.
While lauding India for its position on the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiabo, the TYC warned India against falling prey to the charm offensive label and “reformist” image of China which it said will sign yet another agreement “they will not uphold and a friendship they don’t respect.”
“China’s multiple faces and contradictions surface yet again, when on the one hand it says established borders and control of Tibet should not be challenged while on the other hand they come to India to address exactly that question,” said a press statement issued by the group.
The TYC said if China has come to talk about border issues, chiefly territory illegally occupied by it the issue at stake then is not Arunachal Pradesh or Aksai Chin but Tibet.
“The issue at stake is Tibet and the problem that needs addressing is the continued violation of Tibet’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The stability and security in this region rests solely on the issue of independence for Tibet,” said the statement. The group said India should not allow China to dictate its terms on it.
