Dharamsala, November 22: Jamia Millia Islamia will confer an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degree upon the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday, the University announced in a statment on Monday.
This is after India reacted cautiously last month over reports about turning down a proposal from centrally-run Jamia Millia Islamia to award an honorary doctorate to the exiled Tibetan leader.
‘The University will confer the Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet,’ a statement by the university said.
Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal will be the chief guest of the annual convocation.
A total of 3,529 degrees and diplomas, apart from 147 gold medals, will be awarded as part of its Annual Convocation 2010.
The University will also award 127 Ph.D. degrees to Research Scholars.
Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia will preside over the Annual Convocation.
