Dharamsala, May 10 – A Tibetan youth has died after being allegedly stabbed on the chest by another Tibetan at a private gathering on Saturday night in Delhi. The scuffle started after Thupten Dhargyal, 30, accused Tashi Phuntsok, 23, of stealing his cellular phone. The incident took place at their friend’s house in Delhi’s Ramesh Market near East of Kailash where around 400 Tibetan college students and BPO employees reside.
According to media reports, Thupten found his cellular phone missing and allegedly found it in possession of Tashi.
Thupten was immediately rushed to hospital by his friends but succumbed to his injury on the way around 12.30 AM Sunday. Tashi Phuntsok was arrested Sunday by the police, and a case has been filed against him under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
South Delhi Tibetan Association yesterday held a prayer session at the nearby Japanese temple.
Thupten Dhargyal was born in Tibet, had arrived in India from Tibet several years ago and studied at the Tibetan Homes School, Mussoorie.
This is the second death of a Tibetan due to stabbing in 2010. In January this year, a Tibetan man stabbed another Tibetan to death in Majnu ka Tilla, Delhi.
