Dharamsala, May 7: The exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama endorsed his relevant details in the form for the 2011 census of India, a media report said Saturday.
“We visited Dalai Lama and he signed the census form with great happiness. He said that he is staying here for the last 50 years and is very happy to be included in the 2011 census count of India,” Census Officer B R Chauhan told ANI.
“He also assured that all Tibetans in-exile would include their names in the census so that they can get their ensuing UID (Unique ID Card) that is at par with any authentic document of an individual,” Chauhan added.
According to the report, the Tibetan leader’s inclusion in the census has paved the way for bonafide Tibetan refugees residing in India to be reckoned in the census.
The Dalai Lama expressed his delight at the inclusion of Tibetan exiles in the 2011 census of India, asserting that he himself has been residing here for the past five decades, the report said.
This is for the first time that the Tibetan exile population is being counted in the census of India.
The census of 2011 is reportedly regarded as the gateway for every citizen to obtain the proposed Unique ID card that the Central Government of India has proposed to launch.
