Dharamsala, April 19 – Chinese authorities in Sertha County have detained more than thirty students of a primary school and expelled another after they reportedly hurled stones at Chinese security forces parading two Tibetan monks in a vehicle on April 8, 2010. The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy said it acquired information from a source from the region about the arrests of the Tibetan students of Khar primary school in Sertha County, Kardze “Tibet Autonomous Prefecture.” The names of the monks, however, could not be confirmed. The students are held at Sertha county Public Security Bureau (PSB) Detention Centre.
Another student, Dhonyoe, a 16-year-old student of sixth grade from Thatsi Township was expelled from his school which was slapped a fine of 10,000 Yuan for not disciplining its students.
TCHRD said that the security forces were parading the two monks who had been involved in anti government protests in the area. Chinese forces regularly parade Tibetan protesters in the streets and beat them up to intimidate people.
As the parade reached the Khar primary school, students pelted stones at the security forces breaking the vehicle’s wind shield and injuring a few personnel. The students later pasted pro-independence leaflets on the walls of the school premise.
The authorities later released some of the students but held 10 of them and demanded a bail amount of 2000 Yuan each for their release and a surety letter from the parents promising that their children would not indulge in protests again.
