Dharamsala, March 22: Fire has been raging since Sunday noon in a forest area in Zayul (Ch: Chayou) County, Kongpo (Ch: Nyingchi) Prefecture, in the so called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), according to China’s state-controlled news agency.

The fire has spread over 26 hectares in the forest, only 500 meters away from a school in Zayul County, Xinhua said.

Situated at an average altitude of 3000 metres, Kongpo is comparatively lower to other parts of TAR. The region is home to huge lush green forests, making the area quite rich in flora and fauna varieties.

According to the report, about 1,000 soldiers and civilians have been mobilized to put out the raging fire that appears to be no where near containment.

Although no casualty has been reported, the fire is still raging amid windy and dry weather, the report said, citing local fire control headquarters.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and the Xinhua report provided no further details.
