Dharamsala, January 13 – As His Holiness the Dalai Lama wraps up his visit to Orissa the state government has come under criticism for “not according the Tibetan leader the honor for a “state guest”, the Indian Express reported.
State BJP president Jual Oram today lashed out at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his Government’s cool treatment to Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, the Indian Express reported.
Oram told reporters that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Maoist infested Ganjam yesterday was deliberate as he “does not want to antagonise the Maoists who are opposed to the spiritual leader for political reasons.” The Tibetan leader on Monday said the Maoists should shun violence and solve all problems through non-violent means. “Violence is not the proper way to find solution to any problem. Though there is exploitation in the society, violence can never be a solution,” he told reporters at the Biju Patnak airport.
The Chief Minister preferred to stay away from the spiritual leader just to appease the Maoists, he said, adding that the conduct of the Chief Minister in this context is of very `low taste’.
The Government by not according State guest status to Dalai Lama has lowered the prestige of the State for which he should apologise, he said.
The State Congress also castigated the Government for not showing proper respect to the Tibetan spiritual leader.
