Dalai Lama arrives in Bodh Gaya

Dharamsala, Jan 4: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Bodh Gaya today to deliver religious discourses and take part in the seven-day Geluk Monlam at the Mahabodhi Mahavihara.

The Tibetan spiritual leader reportedly reached Bodh Gaya by a chartered flight to deliver discourses at the Kalchakra maidan for five consecutive days from tomorrow.

The Dalai Lama would visit the UNESCO-declared world heritage Mahabodhi temple to offer prayers, PTI reported Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee member Arvind Kumar Singh as saying.

The Dalai Lama will also inaugurate a multi-media museum and have a look at new stone carvings on Buddha’s life in the Mahavihara premises.

According to media reports, over 50,000 devotees from all across the world have converged at Bodh Gaya to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings.

The Dalai Lama will deliver teachings on Nagarjuna’s ‘In Praise of the Transcendental’ (jigten ley depar toepa), Atisha’s ‘Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment’ (jangchup lamdron), Longchen Rinpoche’s ‘Mind In Comfort and Ease’ (semnyid nyelso) and Tsongkhapa’s ‘Short Version of the Stages of the Path To Enlightenment’ (lamrim dhuedhon).

Stringent security arrangements have been made in view of the threat perception to the Dalai Lama, PTI reported officials as saying.

Bihar Home Secretary Aamir Subhani reportedly said the Dalai Lama would be provided security as per protocol. The spiritual leader has Z-plus security.
