Dharamsala, December 18 – The foreigners visiting McLeod Ganj will now be able to register themselves with the district Foreigners’ Registration Office online through a newly launched website of the Kangra District Police.
Gurpreet Singh Gill, Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, today inaugurated a new website developed by the Kangra District police to provide online registration facility to foreigners coming to the district, the Tribune reported.
The government of India has been on the alert since November 26 attacks in Mumbai and the Indian consulates abroad have also been directed to be cautious in issuing visas to foreigners travelling to India.
Kangra Superintendent of Police Atul Fulzele said all foreign tourists coming to the area would have to register with the local police by filling form ‘C’ brought out by the government of India keeping in view the national security.
Fulzele said that a large number of foreigners stay in houses of local residents in the area and do not register with the police.
The new online registration facility provided to them would encourage more foreign tourists to provide details sought by the police, he said.
The website also provides information about registration formalities required for the Tibetan refugees.
Now, about 99 per cent Tibetan refugees in my district have registered themselves with the police and other respective departments, he added.
Thousands of foreigners visit Dharamsala (Dharamshala in Hindi) for teachings of the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Eminence the seventeenth Karmapa, and for tourism and leisure purposes.
