San Francisco, September 22 – San Francisco TEAM TIBET gathered along with Tibetans and supporters outside the Cow Palace arena Sunday to protest the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Chinese Communist Party’s rule in China.
Tibetans and supporters shouted slogans of freedom and human rights for Tibetans in Tibet and carried banners that read “60 years of brutality, 60 years of genocide, 60 years is too long, Shame on China”.
“The Chinese Communist Party’s attempt to extinguish the Tibetan people’s desire for freedom and self determination has not succeeded, even after six decades of illegal occupation, with the recent uprising in Tibet in March 2008 as a vivid example of the CCP’s failed policies and their continued lack of legitimacy,” said Yangchen Lhamo of Students for a Free Tibet.
Then San Francisco Regional Tibetan Youth Congress declared that the so called October 1 national day celebrations was unjust as Tibetans in Tibet are still being brutally murdered, their fundmental human rights violated.
Though China hugely publicizes that it has “striven towards the construction of this country and have made great progress in many aspects, such as improving the quality of people’s lives” it is a lie, according to Tsering Dorjee, President of SF Regional Tibetan Youth Congress. “This celebration simply congratulates the Chinese government on their failure to uphold the Tibetan people’s freedom and basic human rights,” says Tsering.
SF TEAM TIBET has scheduled another demonstration on Oct 1st at Union Square in San Francisco to raise awareness of the Tibetan people’s struggle against the Chinese Communist Regime since its rule over Tibet.
SF TEAM TIBET is a coalition of five Bay Area organizations to raise awareness about China’s atrocities in occupied Tibet and to counter the massive propaganda churned out from Beijing.
