Dharamsala, August 14 – A Chinese court in Chamdo has sentenced three Tibetans to two years in jail on August 4, 2009, according to the official website of the Tibetan government in exile.
Gyaltsang Jampa, 46, Bhulhuk, 56, and Mutsa Tsang Tseten, 40, were among five people arrested for protesting against the Chinese government’s forced indoctrination campaign of denouncing His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Jomda County in Chamdo Prefecture in June this year.
The other two, Ashag Tsang Norlha, 47, and Gonpo Dhargye, 44, are in detention in Jomda awaiting trial.
“But the charges on which the three were sentenced is not known,” says the website.
The five were arrested on June 22 following a confrontation between some 20 Tibetans and Chinese police who were taking two Tibetan officials, Gyurmey Gonpo and Gyaltsang Dorjee, to Kyabje monastery. The police had earlier in the day arrested the two Tibetan officials for failure to initiate patriotic education in Taklung monastery in Pema and Nadong townships in Jomda county.
