Dharamsala July 15 – Tibetans in Sershul County (Ch: Shiqu) have expressed strong disappointment at the Chinese government’s new housing policy that requires every family to rebuild their houses, the official website of the Dharamsala based Tibetan exile government reported.
The local administration has issued orders to the residents to begin construction works with immediate effect, according to sources of the exile Tibetan government.
“Under the new policy, each household will get 10,000 Yuan from the government, apart from which all the extra expenses incurred have to be met by the family,” the website says.
Many families who had already spent several amount of money to rebuild their houses since last year are now facing strong losses as they are forced to destroy their houses.
Tibetans in Tibet have earlier expressed their opposition to the Chinese government through farming boycott refusing to till their land despite strong warning from the Chinese government against such defiance. However, it is not clear if the disappointment over the new housing policy will take such a form.
