Regarding ”Tibet’s Unlikely Champion” in Sunday’s Newsmaker section, I found it interesting that, according to Shaun Tandon’s well-written article, Henry Wu and I have a nearly identical perspective on China’s current occupation of Tibet.
Though coming from markedly different backgrounds, Mr Wu and I have come to the same unwavering conclusion that Tibet was a sovereign kingdom for many years before the Chinese military takeover of 1950s.
Mr Wu is ethnic Chinese and came to this position partially because of the prolonged suffering he endured while an inmate at Chinese labour camps for nearly 20 years.
I came to my realisations about Tibet via a Scandinavian-American tradition that research is meant to seek the unadulterated truth.
Regardless of our diverse life experiences, we came to the same clear conclusion: Tibet deserves to be an independent nation again, and its indigenous people deserve freedom from control from the iron-handed politburo in Beijing.
