Dharamsala, March 9 – Two home-made bombs have exploded in the Tibetan area of Golok today, reported state run Xinhua news agency.
Two vehicles, one of them a police car, were damaged in the blasts, however no casualties were reported.
The explosions reportedly took place after police and local people clashed.
Local authorities quoted by Xinhua indicated that the “minor explosions” occurred about 0200 local time on Monday.
The blasts followed a dispute between the authorities and local residents who were angry with the police who stopped a timber lorry for a security check, according to the state media.
Meanwhile, 109 monks of Lutsang monastery in Qinghai province were moved today to an undisclosed location by the Chinese authorities ahead of tomorrow’s 50th anniversary of the Tibetan national uprising. The monks of Lutsang monastery had held a protest vigil in Mangra on the first day of the Tibetan New Year (Feb. 25, 2009). They carried candles and said prayers while walking from their monastery to the Mangra county government building.
