Dharamshala Nov. 20 – As the Tibetan representatives from all over the world gathered here for the largest ever assembly of Tibetans for a ‘Special Meeting’ to discuss future political strategies, China said “Independence for Tibet autonomous region can never be considered, but the door remains open for talks with representatives of the Dalai Lama.”
Zhu Weiqun, executive vice-minister of the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting a group of overseas Chinese in Paris.
“It is impossible for the central government to talk with the Dalai Lama’s personal representatives over the so-called Tibet issue. The Tibet government-in-exile is illegal, and the central government will not talk with it,” the People’s Daily quoted Zhu as saying on Wednesday.
“There is no compromising on this issue,” he said.
“The central government will talk only with the personal representatives of the Dalai Lama about his future on the condition he gives up his wrong stance.”
Meanwhile, China has geared up its propaganda of its claim on Tibet. A group of Chinese ‘Tibetologists’ is currently touring Europe. The Chinese team is meeting European politicians, mediapersons, scholars, overseas Chinese and Chinese students in what the exile Tibetans describe as an attempt to lay ‘false claim on Tibet, and to justify its occupation of the Himalayan region’. The exile Tibetans maintain that historically Tibet has never been a part of China.
The exile Tibetan government since 1979 has worked towards chalking out a mutually acceptable solution to the Tibet issue through ‘the Middle way Approach’ to save Tibet’s culture and religion that it fears is under the threat of disappearance.
