Dharamsala, October 16: Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama who underwent a surgery for gallstones removal at a private hospital in the Indian capital, has been discharged this morning.
The 73-year-old Tibetan leader underwent surgery on Friday after he was admitted at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi with abdominal pain.
“His Holiness is fully recovered, he has been discharged from hospital this morning. He will be staying in Delhi for a few more days,” the Dalai Lama’s spokesman, Tenzin Takhla, was quoted as saying by a media report.
“He will resume his normal travel schedule at the end of the month,” Takhla said.
Dalai Lama’s secretary Chhime Rinzin Choekyapa had, earlier on Tuesday, said there was absolutely no need for well wishers and Tibetan public to worry about His Holiness’ condition. “Doctors have already given ‘green signal’ for him to resume his activities,” he said.
The 73-year old Nobel Peace laureate is scheduled to travel to Japan at the end of this month. He usually spends several months a year traveling, promoting human values, teaching Buddhism and advocating for Tibetan rights.
He was awarded the US the Congressional Gold Medal last year in recognition of his contributions to peace, non-violence, human rights and religious understanding.
He lives in the northern Indian hill town of Dharmsala, where he set up a government-in-exile after fleeing Tibet following a failed uprising by Tibetan people against the Chinese rule in 1959.
