Dharamsala, August 27: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has cancelled all his schedules for the next three weeks from today “due to slight indisposition”, according to a statement from his office.
According to the statement, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been experiencing some discomfort in the past couple of days.
“It has therefore been decided that all his schedules for the next three weeks, including the visit to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, are being canceled with immediate effect,” the statement issued today by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama said.
“His personal physicians attributed this to exhaustion and have advised him to cancel his engagements for the time being and instead complete the remaining medical tests that began earlier this month in Mumbai,” the statement added.
Accordingly, His Holiness will not be taking part in a global 12-hour prayer service and symbolic fasting for Tibet due to be on Saturday also, Press officer of the Central Tibetan Administration Lobsang Choedak told Phayul.
A report on the official website of the Tibetan Government-in-exile last week said His Holiness the Dalai Lama would participate in a “12-hour prayer service and symbolic fasting to be observed by the Tibetans and peace-loving people around the world to reinforce their commitment to non-violence”.
The synchronized 12-hour non-violent campaign called on by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee on 30 August (from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) will, however, go on around the world as planned.
Earlier this month, a day before leaving for a high-profile 12-day visit to France, the exiled Tibetan leader was in Mumbai for a medial checkup.
The Dalai Lama’s Secretary, Chimme R. Chhoekyapa, at that time, reportedly commented that it was an “annual routine medical checkup” for the Tibetan leader, whom he said was in “good health”.
