Rome, Dec 14 – The Dalai Lama will certainly participate in the next Rome Film Festival and, probably, the directors who have told the story of Tibet like Berdando Bertolucci and Martin Scorsese. A ‘friend of the Eastern culture’, senator Goffredo Bettini, said this during the lecture of the Dalai Lama today in Rome. “I have asked the Dalai Lama to organise with us a day dedicated to the people of Tibet” the national coordinator of the Democratic Party explained. “Films and documentaries will be shown which tell the true story and, still at the next Film Festival, the Dalai Lama will present the day dedicated to his people”. The idea was welcomed by the religious leader, Bettini explained, “I must still ask Martin Scorsese and Bernardo Bertolucci to participate and to show their work on Tibet. I will do so today and will contact them personally soon. I hope their commitments will not keep them from being present”. The meeting of the senator also had a political value as he explains: “it was a meeting I had as president of the Film Festival and as coordinator of the Democratic Party, with a feeling of friendship I feel for this religious leader who manages to have an impact on the world with his battle for peace”. Bettini underlined his “appreciation for the fight of the people of Tibet for its autonomy, in respect for the Chinese authorities, without asking for independence. A fight inspired on the principles of tolerance, fought with the serenity also Italian politics would need”.
