Dharamsala, October 12: The first round of sixth edition of the Miss Tibet beauty Pageant entered its swimsuit round, the first of the seven competition rounds.
The competition started with five participants described “beautiful, intelligent and elegant young Tibetan women” or simply “five stars” by the organizing team walked around the mini swimming pool of the Asia Health Resort.
The girls paraded amidst strong and diverse media presence and public enthusiasts ready to spare 200 Rupees for some 30 minutes of show. The contestants later briefly dipped in the pool for more glamour.
The participants contested for 10 points judged by four jury members for their figure, skin, posture and poise.
Jury members included Phil Void, a musician and long-time Tibet-supporter from USA; Andy Harrison, a doctor from US specializing in plastic surgery of the eyes and face; Tara Chang from Singapore formerly a gyro-tonic instructor in Miami and Pilates instructor in Sydney; and Ajay Sing a showman from Himachal Pradesh.
The seven competition rounds, beginning with today’s swimsuit, will decide the final crowning of this year’s Tibetan beauty on the grand finale night on Sunday. Miss photogenic title of the pageant will be decided by online voting on the official site of the beauty pageant misstibet.com. The voting went public on 10 October at 9 am IST and will be closed on 13 October at 9 am.
The Presentation and talent rounds will be held Saturday at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
Miss Tibet 2006, Tsering Chungdak, who won “Miss Good Will” title at Miss Earth 2006, was also present today.
The first Miss Tibet pageant was held in 2002. Although it was reportedly a huge success, it was received with mixed feelings from Tibetan community in exile.
