Calgary (Canada), September 30: Defiant Tibetan Buddhist monks and fellow lay citizens have suffered many tragic raids under the iron grip of China – just like the recent Yangon massacre in Myanmar!

An impromptu silent protest was gathered outside Calgary’s City Hall this Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in commemorating the fallen Burmese monks and anti-government demonstrators. Participants included the local Mon Canadian Society, 88 Generation Students, Chin Community, Karen Community and the Burmese Community in Alberta.

Nima Dorjee, President of the Canada Tibet Committee (CTC) Calgary Chapter, voiced a heart-felt support to the global Burmese community.

The Tibetan leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama last month conveyed his appreciation and admiration to the large number of fellow Buddhists monks for advocating democracy and freedom in Burma.

In his statement issued on September 23, His Holiness wrote, “I extend my support and solidarity with the recent peaceful movement for democracy in Burma.”

“I fully support their call for freedom and democracy and take this opportunity to appeal to freedom-loving people all over the world to support such non-violent movements.”
“As a Buddist monk, I am appealing to the members of the military regime who believe in Buddhism to act in accordance with the sacred dharma in the spirit of compassion and non-violence.”

“I pray for the success of this peaceful movement and the early release of fellow Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi,” His Holiness’ message stated.
