
The 2007 IX Pawo Thupten Memorial Basketball Tournament in New York City, organised by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey (RTYC NY&NJ) on September 8 to 9, was successfully concluded.
Ten Boys’ teams and two girls participated in the two-day tournament. Teams from as far away as Toronto (Canada), and Washington DC took part in it and over 400 people watched the matches.
The Harmony and Rangzen teams played for the girl’s championship. The match was an inspiration to the young girls present in the court. And now the organizers are only hoping to have more girls’ teams for the next year’s tournament.

DCAC of Washington DC, Boston 617, Refugee from Boston, MMC (New York), Lil Jordan (NY&NJ), Toronto Dream Team, (Canada), Team Tibet (NY ), CT (Connecticut), Druk (Bhutan) and Rangzen (NY), altogether ten teams, played in the boy’s category.
In the semi finals, DCAC (Washington DC) played against MMC (NY) and the second semi final was played between Boston 617(Boston) and Toronto Dream Team.
A tough final match between MMC (NY) and Boston 617(Boston) was finally decided after defending champion Boston 617 won the game by 4 points after two extra-time play.
The game ended with Boston 617’s score of 55 points and MMC scoring 51 points.
The girl’s award was presented by the President of the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and the boy’s price was presented by the President of the Tibetan Association, NY&NJ.
