Dharamsala, August 16: Tibetan Prime Minister (Tib: Kalon Tripa) Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche will leave for a week-long tour to Sonepat and Lucknow from 16 to 21 August, according to the official website of the Government of Tibet-in-Exile.

Kalon Tripa is expected to attend the inaugural function of a branch office of Youth Liberation front of Tibet in Sonepat, Haryana on 17 August.

Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche will address a two-day seminar on Buddhism and also deliver a lecture on Buddhist theory of “dependent arising” on August 18 and 19 on invitation from Youth Buddhist Society in Lucknow.

According to the website, Kalon Tripa will return to Dharamsala on August 21.

Dharamsala, located in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is the seat of the Dalai Lama led Tibetan Government-in-exile.

The Dalai Lama declared democracy for Tibetans in 1960 and promulgated a constitution for a future Tibet, based on the principles of modern democracy.

Tibetan exiles now directly elect their Prime Minister who will hold a five-year term seat.

With this, the Dalai Lama has long described his role as “more of a semi retired” one. Tibetans, however, continue to revere him as their unquestionable leader.
