Ramnagar (Naintal): India-Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS) Uttarakhand chapter and India-Tibet Coordination office (ITCO) based in New Delhi jointly organised a seminar “Indian Support for Tibet’s Freedom” on June 17 at Ramnagar Municipal hall located at the heart of the Kumaon city.
The program started at 10 in the morning with a screening of the documentary movie ‘Compassion in Exile’. After the movie, Mr Naveen Chandra Paneru, Program coordinator of ITFS Uttarakhand Region, welcomed around 70 participants, comprising of journalist, teachers, and human right activist and local bureaucrats.
Chief Guest of the seminar, Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, explained in brief the historical facts of Tibet post 1950 and the role of Tibet Support Groups all over the world.
The keynote speakers, Dr. D. K. Pal, National Convener for Western U.P and Uttarakhand and Mr P. C. Tiwari, National Secretary of Shramjivi Journalist Association emphasised the need of Indian masses to move their government into supporting Tibetan freedom cause for India’s national security.
Special guest Mr K. C. Pant, President of All India Human Rights Organisation, thanked the organisers for such kind of awareness program in Ramnagar. He acknowledged that Human Rights activists in Uttarakhand should muster all their energy to end injustice and, violation of human rights and religious rights going on in Tibet under the oppressive Communist Chinese regime.
Deeply engrossed in the discussion on Tibet issue, the participants requested extra time for question-answer session. Acharya Yeshi and Mr Tsering Dorjee, ITCO Coordinator responded to a set of queries, which helped participants clear misconceptions brought on the discussion table. The seminar was finally summed up at 5:00 in the evening, two hours behind the scheduled time. General consensus has also been reached to hold more such programs in the region in future. Tibet related pamphlets and publications were distributed to the participants by ITCO staff.
