Dharamsala: May 30: Especially young Tibetans who could not make it to Dharamsala to attend His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s three-day special teaching for Tibetan youths due to start this Friday can still listen to it live here on Phayul.

Over 3500 young Tibetans from India and five different countries have registered for this special introductory Buddhist class, which the organisers of the teaching say is the first of its kind held so far.

The teaching will be held from June 1-3 at the Upper Tibetan Children’s Village School’s main hall.

According to Buddhism Introductory Committee of Dharamsala (BICD), which is organising the teaching, His Holiness’ teaching session will be only for two hours every morning from 9:00 to 11:00.

“There will, however, be question and answer sessions later in the afternoon with distinguished Tibetan Buddhist scholars,” says Tenzin Tseyang, a secretary from the committee.

The committee is little worried that not more than 3000 youths will be able to find seat in the hall due to its limited seating capacity. From the beginning, entry for the teachings was made strictly restricted to the registered ones only.

Many more who have registered for the teaching and others who will be coming at the time of the teaching will either have to resort to loud-speaker being arranged by the organisers or can listen on their FM radio sets, which will also be made available.

“Over 1500 Tibetan students from 22 different colleges from different parts of India, some from outside India have registered for the teaching,” Mr Dawa Tsering, head of the organising committee and a member of the exile Tibetan Assembly told Phayul. “Of the total seats, 900 seats are reserved for TCV students and another 710 for students of Sherab Gatseling School,” Mr Dawa added.

“We are still working on seating arrangement to make sure that the registered students find a place in the hall during the teaching,” Mr Dawa said when contacted on phone.

BICD is a voluntary committee formed a year ago and helps Tibetan youngsters to stay accustomed to Buddha Dharma by arranging regular introductory Buddhist classes.

Phayul will be hosting a live audio coverage in all the three days to ensure that this exclusive teaching to Tibetan youths by His Holiness the Dalai Lama reaches maximum listeners.
