Mumbai (India): Friends of Tibet (India) will be organising a two-day conference in New Delhi to continue advocating for restoration of Tibet’s independence for the future of Tibetan polity.
The conference shortly follows the recently concluded- “The Fifth International Conference of Tibet Support Groups” held in Brussels earlier this month(May 11-14).
In a statement released by the head office of FOT, based in Mumbai the conference will be held on June 23 and 24 at Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi.
According to the statement, the proposed conference is aimed at bringing a sharper focus on the Tibetan independence movement and will henceforth be held at every alternative year.
The statement further states that the conference seeks to strengthen coordination among organisations and individuals who are genuinely opposed to the Chinese occupation of Tibet and supporting the on-going Tibetan struggle for independence.
Lhasang Tsering, former president of Tibetan Youth Congress, Jamyang Norbu, a Tibetan writer and former TYC member, and Phuntsok Wangchuk, an ex-political prisoner are few of the prominenet Tibetan activists who will be participating in the conference.
“During the conference, Mr Phuntsok will deliver a talk on Freedom struggle inside Tibet” Tenzin Tsundue, an eminent Tibetan writer-cum-activist for an independent Tibet told Phayul when contacted on phone.
Currently, Mr Tsundue is also the General Secretary of FOT (India).
Tsundue also said that many Indian and international intellectuals, including writers and Tibetan supporters are expected to take part in the conference.
“We have also extended invitations to all Tibet support groups and Tibetan NGOs” Tsundue added.
By involving in the conference, the statement says that the conference will give individuals and organisations a platform to show rest of the world where one stands on the issue of Tibet.
Friends of Tibet is a global movement to keep alive the issue of Tibet through direct action and supports the continued struggle of the Tibetan people for independence.
