JOINT PRESS STATEMENT

May 11 2007

The incident of 2nd May that happened in at Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala was between few local individuals belonging to the Indian and the Tibetan communities. It was not a fight between the Auto/Taxi Union and the Tibetan community, neither was it a fight between the local Indians and the Tibetan refugees as misconstrued by some people.

To prevent the further escalation of misunderstandings, representatives of both the communities and the Auto/Taxi union met and strongly condemned the beating-up of two young Tibetan women, who had arrived on the scene and bravely intervened to pacify the fight.

Today, May 11 2007, in a public function in Mcleod Ganj, the Auto/Taxi Union has formerly tendered an apology by presenting a traditional Tibetan scarf to the two young Tibetan women. The Tibetan community also presented a traditional Tibetan scarf to the presidents of the two unions. Any litigation regarding this matter stands withdrawn.

With this we state, that this matter has been amicably resolved and therefore nobody should hold any ill feelings. To prevent any future un-pleasant incident, both the communities shall continue to promote mutual respect and friendship.
