Bangalore: April 25: The 18th birth anniversary of 11th Panchen Lama, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima was celebrated in Bangalore city.
Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Bangalore Chapter, led by its president Thupten, organised a joint event wherein all Tibetans residing in the city, including college students, Tibetan sweater sellers, individual working in the city and related Tibetans official staff participated in pamphlet distribution, sit in prayer sessions and candle light vigil.
The peaceful Tibetan campaigners called for Pancen Lama’s freedom to pursue his studies and enable him to resume his rightful spiritual responsibility more freely according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
They also demanded access to Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, rightfully recognised by the Dalai Lama and proclaimed by the Tibetans as the 11th Panchen Lama and to ensure religious freedom and respect for fundamental rights of the Tibetans.
With prayer session and candle light vigil, the campaigners prayed for the well being of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima and his parents who have long been held in Chinese captivity since 1995, three days after the Dalai Lama announced him as the reincarnation of the 10th Panchen Lama.
After 12 years in Chinese captivity, the whereabouts and safety of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima and his parents are still unknown outside China.
