A function organised by Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Delhi to mark 18th birthday of H.H. Panchen Lama was held today in the Tibetan camp, Manjuka Tila.
The function was observed in a traditional ceremonial way to mark the auspicious birth anniversary and at the same time campaign for the release of 11th Panchen Lama from Chinese custody.
A day-long special prayer session is also being organised, which will be followed with a candle light vigil later in the evening here today.
In a separate event held in Jantar Mantar, a newly formed association, Rangzen Shonue Danglang (RSD), jointly organised a procession with Youth Liberation Front (YLF) to mark the birth anniversary of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima.
RSD was formed by some Tibetan youths to show their solidarity and support to Shibayan Raha and Migmar Tsering, who were, earlier on April 9, detained by Indian police for storming into the Chinese Embassy demanding the release of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima.
Around 50 Tibetans and some Indian friends from YLF took part in the procession. The participating members burned down 18 Chinese flags as a symbolic birthday present to the Government of China.
RSD chief Lobsang Shastri told Phayul.com that Dr. Mahesh Yadav, a staunch pro-Tibet India activist known for holding blood signature campaigns for the cause of Tibet, was also present to support their peaceful protest.
As part of the protest march, Dr. Yadav created a portrait of Panchen Lama from his blood.
A separate candle light vigil will also be held at Jantar Mantar later in the evening and, members of Friends of Tibet (India) will also be taking part in it.
