A multicultural extravaganza highlighted the 45th anniversary celebrations of Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF) today. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest was Honorable Madan Kaushik ji, Education Minister, Uttarakhand. The minister was highly impressed of the works of THF. In his speech the Chief Guest expressed much happiness being among so many children. He lauded the extensive work carried on by Tibetan Homes Foundation and said that there is still much to achieve in the field of education. The Chief Guest also presented awards to the best boys and girls of Tibetan Homes School and the Vocational Training Centre. Eight staff members completing their 20 years of service were also presented with a Thangkha and a citation.
Earlier the Chief Guest was welcomed in the Tibetan traditional manner with the Tashi Sholpa (Good Luck) dance and the presentation of scarves by Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, General Secretary. The highlight of the day was the multicultural presentations by students of three schools. The girls from Mussoorie International School, mesmerized the audience with Bharat Natyam and Garhwali (Indian folk) dance, the jazz band of Woodstock School had everyone at the edge of their seats and the three Tibetan presentations by children of Tibetan Homes School showed the rich Tibetan culture beautifully preserved by the exile community.
Among the Honorable dignitaries present were Kungoe Ngawang (Judge, local justice commission office) Kungoe Ngawang Jampa (Ex-ATPD), Kungoe Karma Namgyal (Rector, CST Mussoorie), Presidents of the local Tibetan associations and Indian friends.
Tibetan Homes Foundation is a registered charitable institution dedicated in working for the care of orphan, semi-orphan and destitute Tibetan refugee children in India. The Foundation was set up through the initial donation from His Holiness The Dalai Lama in November 1962 and was made a legal body on April 22, 1963. His Holiness The Dalai Lama continues to head the organization as Chairman of the Governing Body. Late Mrs. Rinchen Dolma Taring was the founder General Secretary of Tibetan Homes Foundation.
