12th March 1959 was the day when thousands of brave Tibetan women raised slogans in the streets of Lhasa and sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet. Therefore every year Tibetan women in exile all over the world commemorate this day as Tibetan women’s uprising day and honor the sacrifices made by those valiant women.

Shouting anti-China slogans like “Freedom in Tibet, Stability in India”, “Wake up UNO” and “Long Live Dalai Lama”, the crowd walked till the Parliament street from Jantar Mantar.

Addressing the gathering, TWA president Mrs. B. Tsering stated that this day should not be observed only by women because it is not a fight for women’s right. Though many women stood up against the communist Chinese on this day back in 1959 in Tibet but it was a call for Tibet’s independence. And therefore men should be a part of it.
