NEW YORK – Students for a Free Tibet has launched a website for the March 10 Tibetan National Uprising at www.March10.org. The website, which was built for to create awareness on the significance of this historic date and inspire activism among Tibetans and supporters, contains compelling articles, news archives, photos, organizing tips and downloadable materials. Aside from rare photos and news reports of the uprising and its aftermath in March 1959, the site also contains information on some of the March 10 rallies that will take place in dozens of cities around the world.

“It is our hope that this website will help inspire and mobilize Tibetans and supporters everywhere to join in this year’s March 10th protests and make this Uprising Day the biggest since 1959,” said Lhadon Tethong, SFT’s Executive Director. “Tibetans inside Tibet are looking to us in exile to take action and speak out against China’s continued and brutal occupation of our homeland. The Chinese leadership, and the international community alike, must see that the Tibet Movement is alive and will only grow stronger until Tibet is free.”

A new March 10 mantra, “Out of Exile, Into the Streets!” is being painted or pasted on banners, placards, bulletin boards and embassy walls. With the 2008 Beijing Olympics only a year and a half away, Tibetans and supporters in several cities on every continent are mobilizing forces to turn this 48th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising into a memorable event and a rallying point for the global Tibet movement.

“There are people planning for unprecedented demonstrations in Dharamsala, Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, and many other cities around the world. In New York, for example, thousands are expected to fill the streets in an epic march across the city from dawn to dusk, commemorating the brave Tibetans who took to the streets of Lhasa and made history on this day forty-eight years ago,” said Kalaya’an Mendoza, SFT’s Grassroots Coordinator. “When dusk sets on March 10th this year, the Chinese government will be on notice that the Tibetan freedom struggle is a movement whose time has come and no power in the world can stop it.”
