Kathmandu, February 25 – The green contour spacious ground with trees and flowers of Hyatt Regency Hotel, food stalls, bar, kids entertainment corner and live concert performances was the venue of the Grand Losar Fiesta II by Dream Factory, the event was held for the second consecutive year on 3rd day of Losar (Tibetan New Year), 20th February.
Dream Factory, a group of young Tibetans organized their annual grand event with live music concert by various Tibetan and local Nepali artists, bands and dance performers, stalls including books and music cds, a variety of Tibetan and other foods and a games and kids corner for children to ride mini duck train, mini ferris wheel, cracking mud pots etc. The venue, the wide open ground of Hyatt Regency was the perfect place created to relax, enjoy and celebrate the Losar. The ticket was priced at Rupees 200 and children under 4 feet were free making it affordable to general public.
The event gates were opened at 11 AM, the live concert, the major attraction of the day was presented by Amji Tashi Dorji La and Kunsang Chodon (Miss Dotö) by introducing Drichu Band, an upcoming Tibetan band followed by some individual singers. The stage was then taken over by the Shambala Band led by popular Tibetan singer Tsering Gyurmey, he performed some of his golden hits including the ‘Tsawai Lama’, then to add little local flavor to the event, popular Nepali female singer Mausami Gurung of the ‘Chanba hoi changba’ came on stage and entertained the audience with some of her hit songs including the ‘Changba hoi changba’. Bollywood dance troupe, a local dance group performed some energetic thumbing bollywood dances including 36 China Town. Michael aka Tenzin Gyalpo, a popular Tibetan comedian singer also entertained the crowd and even came down to the audience to offer a portion of laughter.
There were over 2000 people who attended the event, one Tashi said, “this is better than last year, it is a picnic atmosphere with good live music and I like it very much, I am enjoying my Losar”. There was a special bingo game in the middle of concert and quite a handful of free prizes were given away including an ipod for the full house winner and it was won by a little girl.
Tsetan, one of the members of Dream Factory while commenting on the objective of the event told Phayul, “first of all this is a non profit event, all our 14 members are professionals in different fields, we took out time to organize this event to create a place and affordable event where all Tibetans could come, join and celebrate the Losar together and I think we achieved that goal with maximum public participation and our hard work has been worth, on behalf of Dream Factory I would like to thank all the attendees and our sponsors who made this event happen again”.
This event has been appreciated by most of the Tibetan officials and general public, Bu Dhondup La, the head of Boudha Jorpati area even donated over 15000 rupees for the organization in appreciation, the event has been one of the best Tibetan events in Kathmandu and people would surely love to see it happening again next year.
