Three outstanding young Tibetan artists are exhibiting their paintings at the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture in the International Zonew of Auroville, near Pondicherry in South India. Migmar Wangdu Shaasar, Tsering Gonpo and Tenzin Namgyal Pelwa are showing original remarquable works on contemporary and traditional themes.
The exhibition opened with a lamp lighting and brief talk by Ms. Dena Merriam from the Women’s World Peace Initiative. An author on five books on Art and Sculpture, Ms. Merriam has also had audiences with H.H. the Dalai Lama and H.H. the Karmapa.
Mr. Julian Lines, Chair of Auroville International and Ms. Sonia Dyne, Vice Chair inaugurated an exhibition of traditional Tibetan Handicrafts.
The artists statement mentions their aims:
To express our emotions about being in exile to a broader world audience using our paintings as the medium.
To create awareness and appreciation of contemporary art within the Tibetan society.
To preserve Tibet’s unique culture, tradition and religion through the form of contemporary art.
They expressed their gratitude to Pavilion of Tibetan Culture- Auroville for their generous support in making this ‘Art in Exile exhibition possible and especially to Mr. Claude Arpi and Mrs. Kalsang Dolma for their tireless help.
The exhibition is open 9am-6pm and runs through 28th February.
