14th February, Kathmandu: A Tibetan boy, Lhusham Tsering 19 from Kangtsa County, Tsojang TAP, Qinghai Province, Amdo, Tibet has been arrested by Chinese Permit Checking Post at Dingri County Town on 24th January for allegedly carrying a fake Border Travel Permit, according to a respondent who was a fellow traveler.
According to him, Lhusham Tsering and he came together from Lhasa on 23rd Jan, they faced some problem in Lhatse on the way but luckily nothing happened that day. But the next day on the 24th, Lhusham Tsering was arrested on suspicion of carrying a fake (Tongxingzhen) Border Travel Permit. The presence of Chinese Police and strict checking at the border, his face was blushed and due to that reason the Police suspected and arrested him. He told Police authorities that he was going to Dram for some business purpose but the Police did not listen. The respondent also added that, another fellow traveler from Amdo was beaten and questioned for carrying phone numbers of Nepal and India in his dairy but that person was not arrested.
According to another respondent, many people get arrested regularly while trying to escape Tibet and while returning from India they are usually send to Shigatse Detention Center, interrogated thoroughly for 2-3 months and then handed over to their respective native county authorities. He also confirmed that there were about 300 people detained when he was arrested and all of them were arrested for either trying to escape from Tibet or returning from India without carrying any proper travel document or passport.
