An Objective and Practical Program for School Students from 25 December 2006 – 2 January 2007, Dharamsala
25 December 2006, New Delhi: The Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre, New Delhi, and the International Campaign for Tibet, Europe, will begin a nine-days’ workshop for Class XI students at Dharamsala today. The workshop will go on till 2 January 2007.
As many as 78 students chosen by their respective school administrations, along with 17 teachers from 17 higher secondary schools in India and Nepal will participate in this workshop. This workshop will provide the students an opportunity to interact with the present leaders of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, major NGOs and a chance to obtain first hand information on the functioning of the government and other institutions by visiting all the offices/departments of the Central Tibetan Administration, NGOs and institutions in and around Dharamsala.
The students will get an opportunity to listen to The Speaker and Duputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, the Kalon Tripa, Kalon Thubten Lungrik, Kalon Tempa Tsering, Mr. Pema Jungney (former speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile), Lodi Gyari Rinpoche (Special Envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama), Geshe Lhakdor la (Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives), Kasur Tenzin Geychey la (Secretary to H.H. the Dalai Lama), Ngawang Choephel Drakmargyapon, Penpa Tsering (Director, TPPRC) and Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok (Executive Program, TPPRC), on various topics like the Organisational Structure of the Tibetan Government in Exile (TGIE), the Education Policy of the (TGIE), Budgeting and Financial Status of the (TGIE), Introduction to the Concept of Autonomy and the Middle Way Approach, Evolution of Tibetan Democracy, Fundamental Features of Tibetan Democracy as enshrined in the Charter, Relevance and Importance of maintaining the religious and moral ethos to preserve the Tibetan Identity, Update on the Sino-Tibet Dialogue, Tibet and the International Community, Reflections on the thoughts of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Functions & Policies of the Kashag.
The aim of this workshop is to introduce and familiarize the students to the Democratic and organizational set up of the Tibetan Government in Exile, to familiarize them with the leadership and role of the Civil Society and the press in Tibetan democracy hence making the students realize their future responsibilities and encourage them to prepare them for future roles.
