Deputy Speaker launches a Tibetan film venture

Dharamshala: Lights, camera, action! The clapperboard claps and the first take of “Richard Gere is my Hero” is filmed here this morning.

The one on clapperboard was Dolma Gyari, the deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, at what has been referred to as the maiden film studio at McLeod Gunj.

Notable artists from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) have been cast in this film.

Addressing the films cast and crew at the inaugural ceremony, Mrs. Gyari spoke highly about the initiatives of Tibetan youth who are armed with new skills and foraging new ventures, in furtherance of the Tibetan cause.

The low-budget feature film is produced by the Tibetan Motion Pictures and Arts, established by Tashi Wangchuk and Tsultrim Dorjee in September 2005 at Dehradun.

Tibet Motion Pictures and Artis has thus far produced a Tibetan feature film, “Phun Anu Thanu”, Indias National network, Doordashan commissioned film, “Democracy in Exile” and a comedy show, “The Great Tibetan Laughter Show”.
