Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh), Nov 17: As many as 3,000 Tibetans will stage protests of varying kinds in New Delhi when Chinese President Hu Jintao visits India, Tibetan activists here said.

The protesters will belong to various Tibetan groups that back their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in this hill town.

Kelsang Phuntsok, president of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the most vocal of Tibetan groups, told IANS that the demonstrations would start Nov 20, the day Hu arrives in New Delhi, and continue until Nov 22 when he flies to Pakistan.

He said though every Tibetan group had its own programme, members of TYC and seven other largest Tibetan NGOs would start their march from Dharamsala on way to New Delhi on the day of Hu’s arrival.

Tibetans would also separately hold peaceful protests in New Delhi. Aware of the planned protests, Indian authorities have asked Tenzin Tsundue, a firebrand Tibetan activist, not to leave Dharamsala during Hu’s stay in India.

India is home to some 100,000 Tibetans, many of whom fled Tibet along with the Dalai Lama.
