Patna, October 15 – Senior Tibetan leader Samdhong Rinpoche has urged the world community to put pressure on China to grant autonomy to Tibet.
“The world should build pressure on China to give autonomy to Tibet,” Rinpoche, who is the prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile, said.
Rinpoche, whose government is not recognised by any country in the world, was speaking at the second All-India Tibet Support Groups’ Conference at Bodh Gaya Friday.
“Tibetans are eagerly waiting for the next round of talks between the Dalai Lama and People’s Republic of China on the issue,” he said.
Rinpoche said the talks so far had not been fruitful. “We hope China will invite the Tibetan government-in-exile for the sixth round of talks,” he said.
The Dalai Lama, along with about a 100,000 Tibetans, has been living in the hill town of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh ever since the first batch of refugees fled Tibet 47 years ago after the Chinese occupied it.
