Dharamsala, October 13 – The final three-day Miss Tibet beauty contest started from today with a swim-suit round here at a local holiday resort and, this year, the event was opened for a limited public for the first time.
The swim-suit round judged the contestants’ figure, skin, posture and poise.
Again facing another major set back before the onset of the final rounds, only five of the six finalists have made for the first round of the pageant with one of the contestants having had to withdraw from the event in the very last moment due to unavoidable circumstance.
Although the details for the withdrawal were not divulged by the organizers, Pema Chodon (Peyang), 24, from Dehra Dun, will no longer be contesting for the title.
Metok Lhanze, 20, from Delhi, Tenzin Palmo, 23, from Delhi; Tsering Chungtak, 21, from Delhi; Tseten Yangzom, 21, from Nepal; and Wangchuk Palmo, 25, from Canada are now the five finalists actually vying for this year’s much coveted Miss Tibet title.
With only six more rounds to go in the following two days, the final crowning of Miss Tibet will be held on Sunday at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) here in McLeod town.
The whole event of Miss Tibet Pageant, 2006 will be held here in McLeod town, Dharamsala, the seat of the Dalai Lama’s government-in-exile and home to thousands of exiled Tibetans refugees.
