September 8 – India Tibet Coordination Office organized a seminar at Indian Institute of Mass Communication on 8th September 2006 at IIMC auditorium, it was attended by 200 students who are very keen to hear about the issue of Tibet.
The program commenced at 10 am with the introductory speech by the Student President and presented the Tibetan traditional Khatak to the speakers Dr. Anand Kumar, Professor JNU and National Co-convener of Core Group for Tibet Cause and Mr. Penpa Tsering, Director Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Center and Member of Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies.
Mr. Penpa Tsering, gave a brief outline about Tibet: future course of action and International support and an overview of Sino-Tibetan dialogue. Mr. Tsering further dwelt on the Middle Way Approach proposed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Dr. Anand Kumar spoke extensively on the Sino-India relation and its implication on Tibet. He begins with the strategic importance of Tibet and its implication to India. Dr. Anand, subdivide his presentation on three main issues: First, on the great civilization of India, China and Tibet. Second, on the historical aspect of the India- China and the independent status of Tibet. Lastly, on globalization and its impact on India and China and the settlement of Tibet question.
Student of mass communication had an interactive session with the overflowing question on the subject, which had to stop due to, constrain in time.
A documentary movie “Compassion in Exile” was screened after the seminar which was appreciated by the students.
