Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh), August 30 – Organisers of the Miss Tibet contest say there will be more contestants at this year’s annual contest here in October.
Lobsang Wangyal, producer-director of the pageant, told IANS: “We are expecting many contestants this year. We may have a nice surprise.”
Wangyal declined to give details. He said the date for applying for the pageant had been extended by a month.
Wangyal said the girls would be given a week’s training. “This will include lessons in grooming and an orientation programme in Tibetan history, culture and current affairs. This will begin Oct 6.”
The winner of the Miss Tibet pageant will receive a scholarship of Rs.100,000, Wangyal added. The Tibetan beauties will be introduced to the media Oct 6.
The hill town of Dharamsala is home to the Dalai Lama, who fled to India in 1959 after a failed uprising against China.
