Canada, July 25 : A Tibetan monk scheduled to speak in Hamilton next month has been diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer.

Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche — an emissary of the Dalai Lama — was to appear at Hamilton Place Aug. 4. He began experiencing health problems in Israel last week and was diagnosed with cancer, as the city of Haifa was rocked by attacks.

The monk welcomes the untreatable growth with a philosophical perspective.

“When I was told I have cancer, I did not feel sad or upset. On the contrary, my mind was uplifted and it felt light and open,” he said from hospital.

Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche will speak in his place. He is a disciple of the Dalai Lama and a spiritual director of over 150 Tibetan Buddhist centres and projects worldwide.
