KATMANDU, Nepal – A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in northern Nepal on Sunday blocked the only highway to Tibet, an official said.
Boulders blocked the Arniko highway at Halhale, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of the capital, Katmandu, said Mohan Wagle, a local administrative official.
No one was hurt by the landslide but several buses and trucks were stranded on the mountainous route, he said. It was unclear how badly the highway was damaged.
Landslides are common during the monsoon season in Nepal, much of which is mountainous.
