Three young Tibetan women had been arrested in Lhasa for allegedly carrying out political activities in Chinese-occupied Tibet. The women, identified as Jampa Yangzom, Sonam Choezom and Yiga were arrested on the suspected case of distributing pamphlets that carried slogans on Tibetan independence. The incident occurred on the first day of the sacred Saga Dawa month (May 28 according to western calendar) in Ganzi (Tibetan: Kardze) Tibet Autonomous Prefecture, reported the Radio Free Asia (RFA) quoting sources in Tibet.

RFA said the Public Security Bureau (PSB) of Kardze and Lhasa worked together for sometime to make the arrest. PSB officials from both sides kept a constant watch over their movements until the day of the arrest. They were then taken to Kardze where they were detained in an unknown prison, without trial. RFA quoted its source as saying that the charges brought against the three had not been proved yet. Among the arrested, Yiga is a former nun of a nunnery in Kardze while the other two are nuns
