Taipei, June 8 – The first Conference on Tibetan Studies, organized by Tamkang University’s Center for Tibetan Studies, is set to take place June 9-10 at the university, with scholars from the two sides of the Taiwan Strait scheduled to present 17 academic papers during the two days’ of discussions.
The symposium is being held in response to the expectations of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, said Wu Kuan, director of Tamkang University’s Center for Tibetan Studies, adding that she hopes more and more Taiwanese people will pursue advanced studies on Tibet.
Being different from previous discussions focusing on religion, this symposium will include 17 subjects concerning Tibet’s music, religion, politics, social development and literature, Wu said, adding that several famous specialists will serve as panel discussion leaders.
During the symposium, four scholars from China will present three papers related to the Tibetan language, society and religion, while papers to be presented by Taiwanese professors will cover aspects of Tibetan literature, politics, society, law and language, according to Wu.
In addition to the panel discussions, a Buddhist cultural artifacts exhibition, including more than ten Buddhist statues and Tibetan books, will be held Friday morning.
