Dharamshala May 23 – The Dalai Lama today met with the great grandson of the man he respected much and who played a major role in the birth of the exile Tibetan government and community. Nehru’s great grandson, an emerging face of Indian politics, dubbed by many as the future leader of Congress party, Rahul Ghandhi called on the Dalai Lama today at the latter’s residence here.
The visit of the new generation Congress leader was kept away from the media but the young, astute son of Congress leader and UPA (United Progressive Alliance) chief Sonia Gandhi could not escape the ubiquitous, camera clad media persons.
Rahul visited Gangchen Kyishong, the seat of the exile Tibetan administration. Rahul also met with the Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche and his Kalons.
The Kashag (Tibetan cabinet) hosted a luncheon reception in honour of the young politician.
The purpose of Rahul Gandhi’s sudden visit to this hilltown headquarters of the exile Tibetan government was kept confidential but many believe that it was not a sightseeing either.
Rahul, an MP, later drove to the Tibetan Children’s Village school.
Rahul was to visit here yesterday but bad weather delayed it.
