21 Dead, 2 Critical as Bus Plunges Near Lhasa

Dharamshala May 6 – Unconfirmed reports say that 21 people were feared dead and 2 critically injured as the bus they were travelling in plunged into Kichu river near Lhasa on April 21. An old Tibetan woman and the driver of the bus survived the plunge but were said to be in a critical condition. According to sources in Tibet, all 23 people aboard the bus were Tibetans.

The accident took place near Nethang Buddha, about 15 minutes’ distance by car from the Tibetan capital.

The bus was a private vehicle owned by a Tibetan villager. Sources added that the accident was caused by brake failure.

It took more than 3 hours to pull the wrecked bus out of the river.
