ITSN Olympic Campaign Working Group (CWG) in Dharamsala for a four day meeting

Eighteen ITSN members, constituting the CWG, with members from Tibet organisations from countries such as the UK, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Switzerland, Canada, the Netherlands, United States and India come together for a four day meeting beginning today at the Club House, McLeod Ganj to discuss, brainstorm, to develop strategies and to draft an action plan for the 2008 Beijing Olympics campaign.

The organisations represented at the 1 – 4 May 2006 meeting include the Games of Beijing, Tibetan Women’s Association, Students for a Free Tibet, Free Tibet Campaign, US Tibet Committee, International Campaign for Tibet, Gu-Chu-Sum, Tibetan Youth Congress, Swedish Tibet Council, Canada Tibet Committee, Friends of Tibet India, Tibet Initiative Deutschland, Swedish Tibet Committee and the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe. The goals of the meeting are to evaluate the role of the CWG and specify individual member’s role and tasks in the working group, to review the existing briefing paper and to define and find agreement on the key project of the CWG and to plan campaign coordination till 2008.

A public panel discussion, “Beijing Olympics, 2008”, will be held on 3 May at the Club House and a press conference will be held on the fourth day. TWA will provide further details on the public panel discussion shortly.

The outcome of the meeting will be disseminated to the public including Tibetan NGOs, TSGs and key stakeholders in Dharamsala including the Tibetan media.
